Anti-aging Options for the Face
“Look 10 years younger!” states the headline. We are drawn to read the advertisement to learn about the latest techniques, to analyze the possibilities, and to consider how to retard the aging of our own body.
Anti-aging techniques, both surgical and non-surgical, abound from pills and creams to major surgery. Today more people are considering non-invasive, non-surgical approaches to turn back the clock even a little bit.
Several non-invasive options include Botox injections(1), Restylane(2), Juvederm, Radiesse, and creams. These reduce the crease lines, keep the muscles from working deep groves in the skin, and aid in maintaining a youthful look. Most of these are not enduring and may be done with minimal discomfort.
One method for clearing away age spots, smoothing acne scars, removing fine wrinkles or tightening the facial skin is the Cutera Laser. By removing thousands of small segments of skin all over the face the skin tightens up as it heals in just a few days. Age spots are reduced to restore a more youthful even complexion.
Major changes may be achieved with a facelift, neck lift, brow lift, or blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). Excess skin may be removed to tighten up the skin to present a more youthful look. Function may also be restored when sagging eyelid skin is excised to allow improved vision.
To learn more on how you may benefit from any of these anti-aging options contact our office for an appointment with Dr. Hobbs.

Who doesn’t want to look younger?
Who doesn’t want to look younger?
We all age but how we age is affected by multiple factors. Some of these include sun exposure, weight gain and loss, genetics, stress, lack of sleep and smoking cigarettes.
Sun exposure is cumulative over our lifetime. The more sunburn the greater the potential for spots, freckles, or even skin cancer. These lesions represent damage to the skin and give it an older appearance. Squinting in bright sunlight or to read may also create deep furrows between the eyes and a crow’s foot crease on the lateral sides of the eyes. There need to be a balance between too much sun and too little sun because sunlight is needed to prevent osteoporosis, Ricketts, and low immunity. Studies reveal that 15 minutes of direct sunlight per day on exposed skin may prevent many medical problems.
Genetics is what we have inherited from our parents and cannot change. Knowing the specific genetic predisposition may be helpful in understanding negative aging effects, such as fine wrinkles, jowls, loose neck skin, sagging eyelids or eyebrows, and many more possibilities.
Stress is part of life but how much we have and how we deal with it may unknowingly affect us. More stress often equals poor eating habits with the potential for weight gain that does not aid in a more youthful look. When weight is gained and lost it impacts the elasticity of the skin. The older a person becomes the less “elasticity” the skin has in order to return to its taut youthful appearance.
Lack of sleep for whatever reason may affect the eyes exacerbating ‘bags’ under the eye or drooping of the upper eyelid. These physical effects may remain even after regular sleep is regained.
Smoking cigarettes has been shown to cause the skin to lose its elasticity more readily than non-smokers. The resulting effect is increased wrinkles and sagging skin.
Age related changes may be modified through one or more of the following: Botox injections, Cutera laser resurfacing, blepharoplasty, weigh loss, face-lift, dermabrasion, breast augmentation, breast lift, liposuction or buttocks augmentation.
